New Spearfishing NZ committee members following their 2020 AGM

Introducing some new and returning members to the Spearfishing NZ committee following their 2020 AGM and highlighting upcoming events.

Spearfishing NZ held a belated AGM on 9 July 2020. Some fresh faces have been added to the committee including Alex Edwards, a rising star from a family of very established spearos's based in Northland, and who amazingly won both the NZ and Australian women's championships last year.  They are also pleased to announce two South Island based members - David Packman who is involved with the South Island spearfishing and freediving club, who they are hoping will help improve contact with local clubs everywhere; and Dwane Herbert now living in Southland, who has won the NZ spearfishing champs more times than he can count (and he's a smart guy!).

Providing some continuity to the committee, Reid Quinlan stays on as secretary, and David Scott returns to his former role of treasurer after a long hiatus. John Anderson remains as fish recorder.

The 2020 National Spearfishing Championships is now scheduled to be held at Omaha beach, on Labour Weekend.  The Catfish cull will again be held in Lake Taupo early 2021, and the 2021 champs is scheduled for Easter 2021 based out of Whitianga.

Anyone wanting to be kept up to date on Spearfishing NZ events should follow the Spearfishing NZ Facebook page or their website. On these pages you can join their email list, download the full rule book for NZ spearfishing competitions, or find a local club from our updated club list.
