Safer Boating NZ and Maritime NZ, for Safer Boating Week (12-19 October) have created a 'Paddle Craft Guide'. This helpful and comprehensive booklet provides safety information for kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, sit-on-tops, Waka Ama, and canoes.
Several meetings to discuss the state of the crayfish stock in CRA 2 (the area between Pakiri and East Cape on the North Island) are underway in anticipation of a management review in early 2018.
It’s been a fantastic year of momentum for Young Ocean Explorers. We’ve just completed our ‘Clean Communities – Clean Oceans’ school tour. Over 9 weeks we gave presentations to 68 schools, 12 teacher professional development sessions, reaching over 38,000 students and teachers. (During 2018 we’ve given presentations to over 59,000)
New Zealand Underwater is pleased to announce that the Minister of Fisheries, the Hon. Stuart Nash, has made decisions about changes to the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) and Total Allowable Commercial Catch (TACC) restrictions in crayfish management areas CRA-2 (Te Arai Point to East Cape), CRA-4 (Hawkes Bay to Wellington), CRA-7 (Otago) and CRA-8 (Southern).
