Experiencing Marine Reserves is a national programme of experiential learning about marine conservation. Since forming in 2002, EMR teams have taken almost 120,000 people snorkelling in NZ! Explore the mangroves of Whangateau/ Omaha Harbour with an experienced snorkel guide! This event is in memory of the late Dr Roger Grace and is funded by The Bobby Stafford-Bush Foundation with the support of the Whangateau Holiday Park.

Registration: Registrations are essential.

When*: Sunday 8 November, 2020 (back up 22 November). There are three time slots – Slot One: 12pm, Slot Two: 1pm, Slot Three: 2pm

Where: Whangateau Harbour, 511 Leigh Rd, Whangateau (on sports field next to Whangateau Holiday Park).

Cost: Free – however EMR relies on support so it can run free and subsidised events and they appreciate donations, either cash on the day, online or by giving a koha of your time volunteering at a future event. Most people donate $5-10pp.

What to bring: Bring your own gear or get free hire of our mask, snorkel, fins and wet suits.

Who: Recommended for everyone 5 years and up. All children under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult beach observer.

Cancellations: As this is a free event, please give at least 24 hours notice if you can’t attend so spaces can be made available for other people. If EMR has less than 24 hrs notice or a no show, they’ll issue a $15pp invoice.

Experienced guides and advanced safety procedures will be in place on the day. Please note that due to COVID-19 we will have some additional restrictions and questions surrounding screening for illness. If you don’t meet the requirements please don’t reserve spaces. Snorkel equipment and all joint surfaces will be sanitised between uses.

Get a subsidised ferry ticket and explore Rotoroa Island in the Hauraki Gulf with an experienced snorkel guide. See baby parore, spotties and if you're lucky, a short tailed stingray! This event was sponsored by The Bobby Stafford-Bush Foundation and is run with the assistance of the Rotoroa Island Trust. Ferry tickets for volunteers were sponsored by Fullers 360.

When: Saturday 28 November 2020
Where: Ferry leaves from Auckland CBD ferry building at 8:45am. Please be at the ferry building by 8:15am at the latest.

Cost: Ferry tickets are from$18-45 each + a booking fee.

What to bring:Togs, towel, sunhat, warm clothes, raincoat, water bottles, walking shoes, a picnic lunch.

Who: Suitable for children aged 5 and above. However please note it is a long day.

Cancellations: The ferry ticket is non-refundable and the trip will run, rain or shine! If you’relate and miss the ferry, unfortunately there are no refunds.

This event can only take place in covid alert Level 1. At Level 2 or above it will be postponed to a later date and if it needs to be postponed again due to COVID-19, everyone will receive a refund. Please note, your registration information will be held for contact tracing and EMR will also have a contact tracing QR code to scan. All shared equipment will be sanitised between uses and there will be hand sanitiser on the island for participants and crew to use.
